2011 County Commission Redistricting

The Florida Constitution and Florida Statutes require the Board to divide the county into district every ten years following the release of the U. S. Census Data. In addition to the constitutional and statutory requirements for redistricting, Leon County must comply with a United States District Court order that established the five County Commission single-member districts and two at-large County Commission seats as well as a minority-majority district and a minority-access district.

According to the U.S. Census, Leon County's population grew during the previous decade 15% from 239,452 to 275,487. The 2010 census data has been utilized to re-draw the current County Commission districts and develop a proposed County Commission redistricting map.

The County will hold a community meeting on Thursday, May 26th at 6 p.m. at the Leon County Public Works Department located at 2280 Miccosukee Road to discuss proposed changes to the County Commission District Map.

Presented below are two maps that illustrate the 2010 population growth within each county commission district and the proposed county commission district, respectively. The proposed County Commission district map does not impact the Leon County School Board Districts

The proposed map anticipates minimal change and impacts only very small population of Leon County primarily residing just south of Centerville Road and north of Miccouskee Road (from District 5 to District 3). All other county commission districts would remain the same.

Additionally, the proposed map maintains a minority-majority district and minority-access district.
